2026 DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships For Africans | Fully Funded

Summary:

The DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships programme is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) with the aim of contributing to developments in the African region.


The In-Country/In-Region programme in developing countries aims to contribute to training highly qualified professionals and managerial staff for sustainable development in the partner countries.


The programme thus offers scholarships to future university teachers from developing countries for postgraduate courses and for doctorates.



Eligibilities:

To be considered for the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships, you must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Be a graduate student from Sub-Saharan Africa with a first academic degree if applying for a Master’s programme,

  • or with a Master’s degree if applying for a doctoral programme, who want to pursue Master’s or PhD courses in their home country (so-called In-Country scholarships) or in another Sub-Saharan African country (In-Region scholarships).

  • Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the programme.

  • Please note that In-Country scholarships for students from South Africa are administered by NRF (https://www.nrf.ac.za/).



Benefits:

For the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships, funding is provided for the usual duration of a course – generally, up to two years for Master's and up to three years for the PhD degree programmes.

Value

Generally:

  • Monthly allowance up €600 per year

  • Study and research allowance up to €920

  • Printing allowance €800

  • Tuition fees

Only applicable for In-Region scholarship holders:

  • Travel allowance

  • Health insurance
