In addition to using long-read technology and genome-resolved metagenomics, PhD students will also engage in international research expeditions, microscopy, bioinformatics, and other related fields. You will work closely with Ulrike Endesfelder’s lab at the University of Bonn as well as the group led by Prof. Dr. Probst. Additionally, the University of Duisburg-Essen’s Water Graduate School will provide you with career development chances.

  • Respectful, appreciative cooperation in a non-discriminatory working environment.

  • Individual mentoring and professional development opportunities.

  • Attractive sports and health offers through university sports.

Eligibility:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in microbiology, microbial ecology, geomicrobiology, genomics, bioinformatics, or related fields.

  • Proficient in DNA extraction and qPCR.

  • Bioinformatics skills are advantageous, particularly in genome-resolved metagenomics, Oxford Nanopore Technologies, and programming (shell, Python, and/or R).
